Migraine, also known as hemicrania (from Greek ἡμικρανίον hemikranion "one side of the head") or migraine (from Arabic الشقيقة ax-xaquica "half-head"), is a disease whose main symptom is a headache, throbbing, unilateral or oppressive, accompanied by nausea or vomiting, sensitivity to light or sound, usually very intense and disabling for the sufferer. It is a very common condition, caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors, affecting 11% to 16% of the general population, with a higher incidence in women.
